The New Year is upon us, and many of us may have already formulated resolutions, goals to pursue to better our lives. We may have many kinds of goals from material through spiritual that we want to accomplish in 2018. While a commonly cited statistic states that we will only accomplish 8% of our resolutions in the New Year, this is still no reason to hold ourselves back. With the advent of the New Year generally comes a natural surge of optimism and energy that we can seize upon to start taking simple, small steps forward toward our goals.
While the New Year signifies a new opportunity for our lives, we can also remember that we have the capacity to have many mini ‘New Years’ throughout the year, filled with a fresh, inspiring perspective on our lives, by living mindfully, from moment to moment. Without getting too caught up in the outcome of our goals, we may simply focus on whatever task we are doing in our lives at the time, and put all worrying thoughts out of our minds. The moment passed is no more, the future moment has not yet arrived. Ultimately, we only have this very moment we inhabit. By living in the present, that itself will free us of anxiety and stress. The more we live in the future, the more we tend to succumb to negative feelings like anxiety. Planning will always be there- that is a natural mental function. However, to realize our goals, and our sanity, is to realize that ‘right now,’ the present, is where we need to start from. We can simply focus on planting ‘good seeds’ now with good intentions, that will naturally sprout later into a ‘good crop’ of results.
May you enjoy peace, happiness, and abundance in 2018!
